p21WAF1/CIP1 is a cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) inhibitor that plays a role in cell cycle control. In humans, p21 is a 21kD protein of the cyclin dependent kinase inhibitor 1A (CDKN1A) gene.  p21 acts as an inhibitor of cell cycle progression at the G1 phase and is tightly controlled by p53. It is expressed in normal human tissue and a wide array of tumors.1-3
