CD31, or platelet/endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1 (PECAM-1), is a vascular cell adhesion and signaling molecule that plays a role in maintaining the vascular permeability barrier at endothelial cell junctions. Immunohistochemical detection of CD31 shows cytoplasmic and membranous expression in non-neoplastic and neoplastic vascular endothelial cells,1 including neoplasms of vascular origin such as hemangiomas and angiosarcomas.1-4
